Biography
"Ruth Gowdy McKinley was a studio potter based in Ontario. McKinley was primarily known for her use of wood-fueled kilns, which at the time were predominately used by men. She was the first potter inducted into the Royal Canadian Academy of Art in 1976. The inspiration for the founding of the Canadian Clay & Glass Gallery stemmed from a wish to honour her memory following her death in 1981. Gowdy-McKinley’s work has been presented in many exhibitions in Canada and internationally and is held in several public and private collections in North America. "
