Biography
Shepherd, Charles Grey : Born in 1926 in Toronto, Charles "Chuck" Grey Shepherd began working as a product designer at the age of 17. After stints as "Design Director" at two large companies in his native city, Shepherd launched his own firm in 1950 (it was known originally as the "Design Bag" but was later renamed "Charles Shepherd Associates). As a product designer and industrial designer, Shepherd undertook a wide array of activity, including: display and exhibits design, model-making, commercial interior design, packaging design, product development, product styling and drafting services. By the time of his death in April of 1999, Shepherd had been involved in the design and creation of projects ranging from toasters and school desks to the Nack knife and the Firefox 40 whistle (used by the NHL). Mr. Shepherd was a member of the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts and had been past president of the Association of Canadian Industrial Designers.
