Description

"Thomas Lamb established his own studio in 1968. One of his first important clients was the Bunting Company in Philadelphia, a giant in the outdoor metal furniture industry. As is Lamb's custom he created an innovative design ideally suited to Bunting's production capabilities. His prototype for a perforated stamped metal seat and backrest supported on a tubular metal criss-cross frame gained wide critical acclaim. Unfortunately, the Bunting factory burned down during the race riots of the early 1970s and the fire destroyed the company moulds, including those by Lamb. According to Canadian furniture historian Virginia Wright, Lamb’s design was widely copied and thus despite its short life span, the stamped-metal garden seat was influential in the North American garden furniture industry."
