"Melamine tableware was first introduced to the domestic market in 1945. Melamine formaldehyde, known by the trade name “Melmac’, is more heat and water resistant than urea or phenolic (‘Bakelite’) formaldehydes. Compression-moulded in a two part mould, the parting line (line where the two mould parts meet) runs around the outside of the rim. Melamine resin is clear in its natural state facilitating a wide range of colorations. Bakelite is amber and only suited to dark colors.", "Rainbow Plastics designed an original triangular snack plate for its Stylized Dinnerware line for the residential market" (Golden and Gottlieb, 2004, p. 192).
