Description

"Precidio leads the current revival of melamine tableware. Rather than relying on retro- patterns and shapes, designer Willa Wong (a graduate of University of Waterloo’s School of Architecture) introduces a fresh look. The Sonoma pattern features mix and match embossed dot, ribbed and grid patterns to add texture and design. Precidio, formerly known as Precision Craft, is based in Brampton, Ontario and specializes in acrylic tableware. The company produces the melamine tableware in China."

, "In the late nineties, Precidio helped to revive Melmac. Rather than relying on retro patterns and shapes, the designer Willa Wong introduced a fresh look creating mix-and-match dotted, ribbed and grid-patterned embossing to add texture and design." , "[...] Precisioncraft was one of the first companies to use sonic welding to permit greater variety in the shape and colour of products. Welding different plastic components into a single finished design is now industry standard.

In 1995 [Precisioncraft] went bankrupt and re-established itself as Precidio. The design director, Willa Wong, a graduate of the School of Architecture, University of Waterloo, joined in 1997. Her designs include Sonoma melamine tableware, produced offshore. Precidio also licenses designs from the Toronto textile designer Paula MacMillan and etches her Op patterns on acrylic and glassware blanks [...]. The holding company U.S. Housewares bought Precidio in 1999. The firm sells 70 percent of its $20 million annual production to the U.S. Merchandise is available at Bowring in Canada and Bloomingdales and Bed, Bath & Beyond in the U.S."
