"Melamine tableware was first introduced to the domestic market in 1945. Melamine formaldehyde, known by the trade name “Melmac”, is more heat and water resistant than urea or phenolic (Bakelite) formaldehydes. Compression-moulded in a two-part mould, the parting line (line where the two parts meet) runs around the outside of the rim.
Melamine resin is a clear in its natural state faciliting a wide range of colourations. Bakelite is amber and is only suited to dark colours."
