"Scot Laughton has a distinctive style, putting him at the forefront of design since the nineties.
After graduating from the Ontario College of Art in 1986, Laughton ran Portico, the Toronto studio manufacturer, with fellow graduates James Bruer and Scott Lyons. The studio, along with subcontractors, produced and assembled limited runs of residential and restaurant furniture. Several designs earned awards, most notably the Strala lamp. Laughton left the partnership in 1990, and the studio disbanded three years later.
Currently he designs for Nienkamper (Tufold table [1996]), Pure Design (Jim stool [1997]) and Umbra (Juxta [1999])."
