History
"Originally known as Precisioncraft, the company specialized in tricolour acrylic drinkware. Owned and operated by Hank Sawatsky, a chemical engineer, Precisioncraft was one of the first companies to use sonic welding to permit greater variety in the shape and colour of products. Welding different plastic components into a single finished design is now industry standard.
In 1995 the company went bankrupt and re-established itself as Precidio. The design director, Willa Wong, a graduate of the School of Architecture, University of Waterloo, joined in 1997. Her designs include Sonoma melamine tableware, produced offshore. Precidio also licenses designs from the Toronto textile designer Paula MacMillan and etches her Op patterns on acrylic and glassware blanks (supplied by Libbey Glass in the U.S.). The holding company U.S. Housewares bought Precidio in 1999. The firm sells 70 per cent of its $20 million annual production to the U.S. Merchandise is available at Bowring in Canada and Bloomingdale’s and Bed, Bath & Beyond in the U.S."
